2020 - White Series
The most succinct way to sum up the White Series would be to explain it as paintings inspired by Wayne Thiebaud. Thiebaud has always been a source of inspiration in my studio, including my landscape paintings. Here, I think I'm drawing more specifically from his Dessert Series. The White Series is also a step towards objects as my subject, and away from landscape painting. My landscape paintings were compiled of marks commonly used to describe landscapes, but arranged for the sake of design and allowing the "place" to grow out of the process. The White Series seeks to do the same with objects. I'm not working from life or trying to paint from memory something specific, rather I'm compiling a vocabulary of marks commonly used to render form. The marks are assembled in accordance with design sense and the object grows organically out of the process.
